Mouragiou Apartment Georgioupolis
Object description
Between the clear blue waters of the Aegean Sea and the hills of the White Mountains in northwestern Crete lies Georgioupolis. Tall eucalyptus trees provide pleasant shade and greet everyone who comes to the village and everyone who wants to go to the long sandy beach that stretches for miles to the east.
The pleasant little town has grown in recent years. A sleepy fishing village has become a popular holiday resort where everything is within easy walking distance. Fishing boats line the picturesque estuary. On a boat trip, you can watch the pond turtles that live in the freshwater stream. The village square has always been the meeting place for locals and guests to exchange stories of the day in one of the numerous taverns and cafes while sipping a chilled ouzo or enjoying a delicious Greek salad to start the evening’s dinner.
The Mouragio Apartments are located closer to the beach of Georgioupolis than any other accommodation. Just 40 metres separate your front door from the sandy beach and it takes less than three minutes to walk to the village square!
These eight comfortable apartments are designed with a nautical theme. The owner works on one of the large ships that commute daily between Crete and Athens. Tasteful blue tones, portholes, pictures of mermaids, dolphins and boats and a large anchor at the entrance are just some of the special features of the Mouragio Apartments.
The two studios, five one-bedroom apartments (max. 4 pers.) and one two-bedroom apartment each have a bathroom with a hip bath and shower attachment, kitchenette, TV, air conditioning and balcony or veranda, most with a sea view.
The magnificent sandy beach is a wonderful place to spend the day, but there is also an outdoor pool 150 metres from Mouragio as an alternative. It is open to everyone, with a fee of around 6 euros for a sun lounger.
If you want to explore the wider area (and there really is plenty to do and see), you can take your rental car or public bus to Rethymnon or Chania, or explore the surrounding area on foot. A speed step in between would be the ‘Georgioupolis Road-Train’, which takes you to the mountain village of Argiroupolis with its natural springs and waterfalls, a cool, shady spot for lunch on a hot summer’s day! Lake Kournas, Crete’s only freshwater lake, picturesquely framed by the foothills of the White Mountains, is just six kilometres away. Here you can swim, rent a pedalo or enjoy the view from one of the tavernas on the shore!
