The tiny village’s daily activities centre around the Palace of Zakros, one of the most important Minoan sites. The Valley of the Dead, a dramatic gorge, winds its way down through the high cliffs from the upper village to the sea. A handful of tavernas are ideally situated right on the beach, which can be reached in less than ten minutes on foot from the Stellas Apartments.

Stella’s Traditional Apartments & Studios blend into the beautiful, peaceful surroundings as if they were part of them. Stella and Elias, the owners, love nature and everything that goes with it, and this is evident in the magnificent garden that surrounds the apartments. Here you can relax on comfortable loungers, in shady corners or in hammocks, gently swinging, dreaming away. In the evening, the scent of many herbs fills the air: basil, thyme, oregano and rosemary, mixed with the sweet scent of jasmine, pine and the soothing sea air.

Stella’s apartments have been furnished with great attention to detail, with everything reflecting the culture and ancient traditions. Zakros, Minos and Kriti are located next to each other, each with a living and sleeping area, kitchenette and bathroom. A few metres above, there are ‘Georges Studios’, five more adjoining holiday apartments in the middle of the colourful, fragrant garden. They are similarly and traditionally furnished and have a double bed, a well-equipped kitchenette, a bathroom with shower and a shady veranda. Stella and Elias will be more than happy to share their enthusiasm for this special area with you, giving you good tips for excursions and showing you hiking trails that were mostly discovered by Elias himself – all this only if you can tear yourself away from the serenity of this enchanted place. A sign at the entrance gate reads: ‘Nothing is closer to paradise’ – we think that sums it up!
